Entrepreneur, politician, and member of one of 19th-century Chile’s most historically significant families, Don Maximiano Errazuriz envisioned crafting remarkable, timeless wines.
While in his times most of Chile’s vineyards were planted in the outskirts of Chile’s capital, Santiago, he turned his eye northward in search of a valley with an exceptional terroir.
After 100 km and two days on horseback, he came upon a viticultural paradise, the Valle de Aconcagua, where he founded his winery in 1870, exclaiming: “from the best land, the best wine.”
